On behalf of the International Training Centre of the ILO in Turin, the colleagues of the Gender Coordination Unit warmly wish to pay a tribute to the memory of Eve hall. a friend and a colleague in our activities for many years.
We feel we have lost a member, which stretches across the organisation and beyond, sharing the same goals and commitments and beliefs.
The common cause of promoting equality and human rights for women and men in each and every place in the world was the occasion for meeting with Eve many years ago. It has sustained our personal and professional relationship with her since then.
We have admired her strength and commitment and her nice personality and her powerful dedication to the principles she firmly believed in. We have immensely profited from her wisdom and her clear knowledge of the issues related to the conditions of African women in the Southern Hemisphere.
She was able to assist us in many endeavours, in translating an international policy framework into a practical and sustainable approach to the benefit of southern Africa. She did so in devoting time and attention to a series of Southern African Briefs, which still represent a major resource in our capacity building programmes, but also, recently, in accepting the challenge of new technologies and embarking with us, as an on-line tutor, in the adventure of computer assisted distance learning.
In the past 15 years we bonded a solid tie made of common hopes and of faith in a better future for the world we live in.
We mourn with her family ad close friends: we know they are already missing her so much.
May they be comforted by the thought that Eve will always live through her work and through the experience and knowledge she was able to impart to others.
We feel it was more than by sheer chance, the fact that the sad news of her passing away reached us when two of us had just returned to South Africa, to take our common work on equality further. In the sadness of the moment we felt that she was with us in spirit, with this group of African women and men - black coloured and white folks, working together for a new country where equality can be a daily reality and not only a sound principle.
May her memory be honoured by all those who believe that each individual contribution can make a better world for all the others.
May her dear ones receive all the love and affection they need to overcome this difficult passage.
We send our warm feelings and thoughts with respect and friendship.
